LENA HOSCHEK // SS 2014

Hair :: Alex Moser & Christian Kleinhappel
Make-up :: Christopher Koller of L'OrĂ©al
Models :: Anna Kuen, Olga Datsenko, Marine Douchez, Camille Desbos

I just fell in love with this look book by Austrian Fashion Designer Lena Hoschek who also did the Art Direction and Styling for the shoot. Photographed by Lupi Spuma, this is a explosion of floral and pastel, 40's/50's style hair & make-up, pretty frocks and vintage inspired swimwear. I love the way it reminds me of The Notebook. Everything is so feminine and the style is modest, classy and flattering.

See the full look book here.

THE BRIDEMAIDS CLUB // ROSE TINTED ILLUSTRATED PACKAGING

Rose Tinted Illustration, Design & Photography

You may have already seen this image on my facebook page or on my instagram but I just thought I'd share it here too! This is the illustrated brown paper bags I created for the Flower Crowns of the beautiful Esther-Faith and her bridesmaids. We did this sweet thing where she came up with three words to describe each of her bridesmaids and I wrote it as part of the design.

I love gift wrapping and so I tend to go all out, which you will know if you have ever purchased a Rose Tinted Flower Crown. I also like to use vintage vogue pattern pieces as tissue paper for a nice touch.

I have to wait patiently until post wedding to share photos of the flower crowns, but I can tell you now that they are some of my favourite creations.

MY SILK FLOWER COLLECTION

I have collected some very beautiful silk flowers over the last few years. Some of these were simply too big for Flower Crowns, but they sit pretty in decorative glass bottles collected from second hand stores. I'm going to share the best secret of where to find lovely silk flowers... There is a gorgeous store in Howick (under the Terrace apartments) called "Sweet Home" which has a range of home wares and gifts. It specializes mostly in quality silk blooms. It is always my first stop when looking for posies to use in my handmade Flower Crowns.

I just love how light and sunny our bedroom is during the afternoon. I didn't have to edit these photos at all!

BLOOM // DOUBLE EXPOSURE - SCOUT & CATALOGUE

Photograph by : Anabela of Fieldguided
Lookbook : Scout & Catalogue

This beautiful double exposure was from the Scout & Catalogue lookbook of 2012 and it is one of my favourite images to date! Shot by the lovely Anabela of Fieldguided who loves to shoot with film. I love the hat, the blooms, the windowsill, her lipstick, the composition, everything! This image pretty much inspired the "Transparent Memories" Photo story from Rose Magazine that I did as my final art school project. Still some of my favourite photos that I've taken.

VINTAGE POSTCARDS // GRANDMOTHER'S COLLECTION

Vintage Postcards // Grandmother's Collection

One of the joys of cleaning out my old bedroom in my parent's home is discovering treasures like these. I found my grandmother's album filled with beautiful postcards that she has collected over the years. I love the designs and the artful use of lettering + type. I find little things like this to be very inspirational!

WE'RE GOING TO CHINA!

Exciting news!! My husband and I are going to China to teach English in Wuhan for 1-2 years! We leave in a couple of months and are greatly looking forward to this adventure.

I'm particularly excited for the flower markets which apparently are really inexpensive. I'll hope to have fresh flowers in our apartment all the time. Plus I'll get to make flower crowns from fresh flowers! Yay! Apparently the Antique Markets are amazing as well as the art store which is not far from our school. I'm excited to go shopping! Though I hope everything is not too short on me as I am quite tall.

We're excited to live in a city. To be able to walk down to the streets and enjoy dining out more. Though Wuhan is known for it's spicy food, and I am known for not enjoying having my taste buds aflame. (I''ve learnt how to say "No Spice" in Mandarin).

I'm excited to take photo's and to embrace the culture and the warm hearted people. I'm really looking forward to teaching as well. Without adding another year onto my degree, it's not something I would be able to do in New Zealand. But being able to do it short term is going to be an amazing experience. My husband Louis is a professional teacher, so he will be able to give me many tips along the way. The students in China are known for being eager to learn which will help me immensely. We also teach with a Chinese teacher in the same class so I'm not doing it alone.

The weather there is extreme heat in summer, and very cold in Winter. I've never experienced such big extremes in temperature so it's making me really contemplate what I pack in my suitcase. I'm trying to think natural fibres like cotton and silk for summer, and warm knits, merino wool, duck down feather jackets, and a good rain coat for winter. I love to pack, to make lists and think ahead to what adventures I'll need them for. But it's also sad packing our lives away here though I know it will not be forever.

We will miss our families and friends LIKE CRAZY. But we are so blessed to have skype, email, viber and all these other forms of media that can connect us with them.

I will continue with this blog, and I am looking to set up an etsy store to sell my flower crowns and illustration prints. So I will not be going away, in fact my content will only get more enriched as I travel and experience new things! :) x

SWEET LITTLE FLOWER CROWN // LAVENDER + LILY OF THE VALLEY + HYDRANGEA PETALS

I made this gorgeous wee flower crown for my friend's adorable daughter (Kalista) as her 5th birthday present! I can't get over how adorable and small it is. She is going to look ever so cute! I used lilac coloured ribbon to finish it in a bow (which is both cute and clever cause the size is adjustable).

Darling little Kalista saw this Lavender Flower Crown at my stall at the Ponsonby Craft Market (which is coming up again on the 12th July) and she fell in love with it. Apparently she hasn't stopped asking Mum & Dad when she will get it.

If you know some one who would love a Rose Tinted Handmade Flower Crown, or if you would like one yourself, don't hesitate to contact me: rosetintedillustration@gmail.com

I love making these beauties! x
